Tyler spent years building what the world told him success looked like. The abs, the car, the company. And the world cheered him on. He drove his dream car home one day, pulled into the driveway, turned off the engine, and felt completely empty inside. He didn't know yet that…
On paper, Joomin had every reason not to make it. Thirty, no English, no connections here. What changed everything wasn't a plan. It was a professor telling him he didn't have to make it, he just had to go experience it. That one reframe is how he got to Broadway.
Joomin was told to find a different path. Instead he aimed higher. He talks about the North Star that pulled him toward music school, the one teacher who actually believed him, and how five years later he was somewhere no one predicted.
Matt Ross didn't write a book to sell anything. He wrote it because putting the hardest year of his life into words turned out to be its own kind of healing. There's something he says about how sharing your story, even the messy parts, can quietly change you. That one…
Two teachers told Joomin he wasn't talented enough. He cried for three months. Then he kept going, not because he was sure they were wrong, but because he couldn't picture stopping. He ended up on Broadway.
Joomin became the first native Korean to perform at the Tony Awards. He describes the Radio City stage, a sea of people, a standing ovation, and thinking, what is life right now. What gets me is that he almost never went. He was thirty, spoke no English, and everyone told…
Joomin said something I haven't stopped thinking about. If you treat your dream as a noun, a finish line, you live in failure until you reach it and then lose it the moment you arrive. Treat it as a verb and it becomes something you do every day, and it…
Matt Ross spent years in rooms with people who had already built what he wanted to build. What stuck with me is how much he leaned on that, actually listening to the executives and investors around him instead of pretending he had it all figured out. That access is part…
There's a night Joomin can't forget. A party in Wisconsin where he couldn't get a conversation past the surface because of the language barrier. He left early, walked home through the snow, opened his English workbook, and decided he'd learn it the way he learned everything, one small rep at…
Joomin's Broadway debut almost didn't start on time. A snowstorm held the curtain, and when it finally went up, he says he made himself actually take the moment in. After years of being told it wasn't realistic, he stood there and let it land. I am here. Yeah.
Joomin talks about standing on the Radio City stage, celebrities in every seat, performing in front of Samuel L. Jackson, a standing ovation rolling toward him. A kid who grew up not sure he belonged anywhere, standing in the middle of all of it.
There are moments in life when someone says something so simple, so obvious, that you almost miss it. And then it stays. It rewrites everything. Joomin Hwang had been dancing since middle school, performing since college, and quietly watching Broadway clips on YouTube long before anyone told him it was…
What if the sentence that changed your life wasn't advice? What if it was just permission? Broadway performer Joomin Hwang shares the six words a professor said that sent him from South Korea to Wisconsin at 30 with no English and a dream he wasn't sure was even possible. Joomin…
